To understand the need for a Universal Hybrid online double conversion AC UPS, we should first understand how online double conversion AC ups currently available in the market model function.
Online UPS are in use today in Domestic, Commercial and Industrial Sector and they are primarily running with AC Input from the grid at 50 or 60 Hz, and store energy in batteries for backup function including input rectifier stage with battery energy storage facility and a second stage inverter for DC – AC energy conversion to output AC power for powering connected electrical load.
With rising energy costs and awareness about Climate change and global warming, there is increasing use of renewable energy sources like Solar energy, Wind power, Mini Hydro Power, Green Hydrogen Fuel cell Energy, Tidal power, Geo Thermal by consumers from Domestic, Commercial and Industrial segment for their energy requirements. The primary concern is all these energy sources produce different current waveform and frequency that is not possible to configure with traditional online double conversion AC UPS currently available in the market.
With the Idea of a designing a Single Online Double Conversion AC UPS, that can be configured with all these input energy sources and provide a Clean and Stable AC Output that can power any electrical load, Hypoel has developed the Re-Usable Universal Hybrid Online Double Conversion AC UPS.
The major advantage of this product technology is front end universal hybrid active rectifier topology, a Unique Product in the Hypoel Technologies product line, it can work like a hybrid energy transfer unit that can accept input multiple sources like Renewable Energy solutions like Solar, Small Wind, Mini Hydro Power, Green Hydrogen Fuel cell Energy/ Battery & the Grid, this shared multiple input energy source is first converted to DC power with a single converter without breaking of input power source, it can also work with a single input energy source for DC power conversion.
The second stage is of the Universal Hybrid Re-Usable Double Conversion Online UPS is the Inverter which converts the DC Energy into stable AC Energy that can be used to power all connected AC electrical load.
There 3 mode of operation available this product.
1. Renewable Energy only input mode
2. Grid Energy only input mode
3. Combined Grid and Renewable Energy input mode
Renewable energy only input mode
Under this mode of Operation the Universal Hybrid Active Rectifier gives Input priority to the renewable energy source connected to feed power battery and inverter.
When input renewable power is not sufficient to service the demand for AC output power, the system will automatically feed power to inverter from renewable input source and the Battery to maintain continuous output power requirements.
When the battery reaches low level and, the renewable source and the battery are no longer able to provide the AC Output energy requirements, the Universal Hybrid Online Double Conversion UPS will automatically connect to the GRID SOURCE through a static switch and feed to output load demand. The System will automatically shift to Renewable or Renewable /
Battery when they are able to service the Output energy requirements.
Grid energy only input mode
Under this Mode of Operation, the Universal Hybrid Active rectifier gives Input priority to the GRID energy source to feed power to the battery and inverter.
When input grid power fails and there is demand for AC output power, the system will automatically feed power to inverter from the Battery to maintain continuous AC output. When the battery reaches low level and grid source no longer available the universal hybrid online double conversion ups will shut down automatically and when the GRID power resumes the universal hybrid online double conversion ups will Start automatically and the operations resume with the connected loads operating on GRID Power and the batteries getting charged simultaneously.
Combined Grid and Renewable Energy input mode
Under this mode of Operation the Universal Hybrid Active Rectifier always gives priority to input from renewable energy source to feed power battery and inverter.
When input from renewable power is low and demand of output power cannot be supplied by the renewable energy source alone, the system will automatically feed power to inverter from renewable input source and the Battery energy to maintain continuous output power demand.
When the battery capacity reaches 50% and renewable source no longer sufficient to maintain output power demand, the Universal Hybrid Active Rectifier will connect automatically to GRID energy source and Hybrid Energy transfer function will be activated to feed power to the battery and inverter stage. When battery reaches fully charged condition and the available renewable source can supply the output energy requirements, the Universal Hybrid Active Rectifier will automatically disconnect gird AC source and supply output power from renewable source and battery and continue to do so till the battery and renewable energy source can meet the AC Output energy requirements.
When the renewable & battery is insufficient to meet the output energy requirements & the grid energy source also fails static switch source no longer available the Universal Hybrid Online Double Conversion UPS, the system will shut down automatically.
